Sometimes spending time on the computer
can be a little lonely. You have a job to do and you close yourself off from the world. However, if you are seeking company and loving art at the same time LEAPdirect is a fine place to visit. You can start a discussion with others of the same mind and talk about artists in general, specific prints, styles or anything else art related you can think of. We have made it as easy as possible to...

We haven’t talked much about photography
on LEAPdirect over the months but I just watched a show called Travels to the Edge on our local PBS station that stars Art Wolfe. He is a nature and wildlife and cultural photographer that also does a lot of work with still life, and abstract composition. He was trained as a painter and uses an artist’s passion and vision in his photographs and composition is of primary...

I was just reading an article that discussed
the concern the art world has over funding for our marvelous art venues. New York City saw a great need and recently restored funding the arts since people just don't give as much as past generations have. The Government is not supporting the arts in the budget and some states have cut their cultural budgets as much as 80%. Maybe we should all feel a little better about supporting our...

How soon is too soon
to start little kids thinking about art? Many Childrens' museums are emphasizing art in their activities and hoping to fill the void since schools are cutting arts from the curriculum. Parents and caretakers can spend some real quality time with  youngsters with a box of crayons just putting colors on a piece of paper. Think of all the bright colors on kids toys. Color and...

Robert Kipniss is an artist of some renown.
He is a member of the Royal Society of Painters and Printmaking. His works are stylized scenes with nature and architecture elements. Quilting is an art form
that has nothing to do with limited edition art prints. Another staff member and I dabble in quilt making and have agreed that it is sort of like getting ready to paint a picture. The difference is you usually use a quilt pattern, decide if it will be bed size or a wall hanging, pick your...

It is summer time and the street fairs are starting.
The event that really draws my attention is the sidewalk chalk art. I am amazed at the talent of these artists using plain old concrete as their canvas with crowds of people walking around them while they are composing their masterpieces. Most of the viewers quietly watch while the talent is displayed but there seems always to be those that talk and appraise.  Even more amazing is that...

Have you ever wondered where the comment “Art for Art’s Sake” came from? Art Terms Dictionaries
We recently checked several Art Terms Dictionaries for the definition of art and found the word art is always preceded or followed by another word such as Fine Art, Art Autre, Art Nouveau, or even Art for Arts Sake with definitions of the combined terms. On the other hand, Websters Dictionary defines art as a skill acquired by experience, study, or observation. It goes on to say it is the...

The importance of color
Color is one of the main things that catch our attention when viewing art.  Red and yellow are attention getters where blues and greens can have a calming effect. Several studies have been made to determine what colors appeal most to buyers of art. What is a collector?
What is a collector? Well according to the dictionary a collector is one who collects. And how does a collector collect? A collector gathers together and accumulates what is wanted. Devotees of limited edition prints collect by subject, artist, color, trends, value, and maybe just by what catches their eye.  There are as many reasons to own limited editions as there are titles out there....

Artist's Proof!
Artist’s Proof! Is there more value or just something a little unique?  The artist’s proof is one of many proofs pulled by the printer prior to the full run of the work.  This procedure first started when artists were hired for commissioned work. Their payment usually was lodging and a small sum for living expenses plus facilities and supplies. The proofs...
